Melanie O'Kane is the Founder and President of MAD Typing and Consulting, Associate Editor of IVAACast, and Host of MODCOM Radio. Melanie lives in Southwestern Wisconsin with her family, which includes two English Bulldogs and an English Mastiff.
Melanie's experience in the Virtual Assistant Industry began after working for nearly two decades in corporate America. During this time her titles included Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant, Department Secretary, Marketing Assistant, General Manager, and Senior Program Assistant.
At the beginning of 2002, Melanie's district-office position was eliminated due to budget cuts. That being the second time in her career this had happened, Melanie decided to find a way to continue working as an independent professional instead of searching for another position at another company. By the end of 2002, Melanie had established her own company, MAD Typing and Consulting, and had already secured one client.
Over half a decade later, MAD Typing and Consulting continues to provide topnotch executive administrative assistance, desktop publishing and PDF conversion services to clients throughout the United States and is a trusted subcontractor to some of the country's top Virtual Assistant organizations.
Melanie is the author of two e-books: How to Become a Successful Virtual Assistant and How to Establish Your Fees. She is a Member of the International Virtual Assistants Association and serves as Associate Editor of their online magazine, IVAACast. In addition, Melanie is the Host of MODCOM Radio, an Internet talk radio program on BlogTalkRadio.com that revolutionizes the way people think, work and live.
And in January 2008, Melanie had the honor of being featured in BusinessWatch magazine (Do You Need a VA? All about virtual assistants, by Zaher Karp).
When Melanie isn't working, you'll probably find her doing something outside, like gardening, fishing, hiking and camping - always with dogs by her side. Melanie is an avid consumer of information - all kinds of information. So if she's not reading or "Googling", she's probably watching brain-food television. During the spring and summer months, Melanie sponsors and plays second base for a local co-ed slow-pitch softball team.
Spending quality time with her family and friends, and allowing her clients to do the same, are Melanie's ultimate rewards from owning and operating MAD Typing and Consulting.
